Cincinnati Reds 17th round pick – Deven Marrero – SS – American Heritage HS (FL).
Great pick. Was a top 3 or 4 round talent so they will have to pay him, but I really like this kid.
Cincinnati Reds 18th round pick – Stephen Perez – SS – Guliver Prep HS (FL)
Was good enough to have a full profile on Mlb.com’s draft page. Another guy that may be a tough sign and will certainly require an over slot bonus.
Scouting Report
A real baseball rat who has average or better tools across the board except for his speed. He is a switch hitter. Has great baseball instincts that allows his tools to all play up a notch and is a very polished player for a high schooler.
Cincinnati Reds 19th round pick – Mitchell Clarke – LHP – Forest Heights Collegiate Institute (Canada)
Notes
Clarke certainly didn’t disappoint his observers, as his fastball topped out at 89 miles per hour, on a cool day, and was complemented with a knee-buckling curveball.
Clarke wouldn’t bite on whether he would sign with a MLB team if he is drafted or attend Division I Walter State in the fall on a full scholarship.
“It all depends on the offer and which round I go in, and how much money they’re willing to put into it,” he said.
