The Cincinnati Reds select SS, Billy Hamilton, Taylorsville HS. More to come soon.

Scouting Report

Bat – Good bat speed and a strong kid, but is relatively raw at the plate. Will need some time to work on his swing, but has all the tools at the plate you like to see. If he plays SS or even CF (which some scouts think he may move to), his power projects well for the position.

Defense – He has very good speed which makes him profile well at SS or CF. His arm is above average almost anywhere you play him and certainly above average at SS or CF. Very athletic, but could use some work to sure up his actions at SS.

Other Notes – Was a three sport guy in high school, making him perhaps a bit behind the curve for other players in his region because he wassn’t able to focus on baseball solely. Very high upside, but has a low floor due to his raw abilities on the field. Expect the Reds to take it slow with him.

“I think I’m going (with) baseball,” Hamilton, a shortstop and outfielder, said moments after his selection. “I really don’t know yet, but I’m pretty sure I am, though.”

Sounds like he wants to play baseball.
