Louisville starts the playoffs tonight on the road in Durham. Travis Wood will be on the mound for the Bats taking on Jeremy Hellickson (TB Rays). Lets take a quick look at this outstanding pitching Match Up:

Player W L ERA G IP H HR BB SO GO/AO AVG
Hellickson 9 2 2.45 20 114 72 8 29 132 0.77 .178
Wood 13 5 1.77 27 167.2 121 6 53 135 0.98 .204
Player W L ERA G IP H HR BB SO GO/AO AVG
Hellickson 9 2 2.45 20 114 72 8 29 132 0.77 .178
Wood 13 5 1.77 27 167.2 121 6 53 135 0.98 .204

That is what we call a pitching duel if I have ever seen one. These two guys have been two of the best pitchers in the minor leagues this season. They have a similar profile as well. The throw with opposite arms, but both are shorter guys with slight builds who aren’t going to over power anyone. They just throw strikes and mix in good offspeed pitches. I can’t wait to watch this one tonight at 7:00.

As for the offensive side of things, this could potentially be a line up that we see sometime during the Series for Louisville:

  1. Heisey – CF
  2. Alonso – 1B
  3. Frazier – 2B
  4. Bruce – RF
  5. Bankston – DH
  6. Francisco – 3B
  7. Dorn – LF
  8. Valaika – SS
  9. Denove – C

How is that for a stacked line up? Durham has historically owned the Bats in the playoffs, but I think there is something that could be very good about this 2009 club in the playoffs. Just have to hope the bullpen can hold up.

Tomorrow I will start doing my team by team reviews, starting with the Dominican Summer League Reds and working my way up (probably skip over Billings until their season is officially over).

I am working on some offseason features right now. Something that will be a repeated type topic once a week for the offseason. Right now I plan on doing a ‘You Scout’ post once a week during the offseason and I am tossing around a few other idea’s as well. If you have something you think would be a cool site feature once a week or even bi-weekly, let me know. Its a long offseason and my brain only has so many ideas.
