Usually Monday’s are for the You Scout series, but last week kind of threw everything off with Baseball America’s Reds Top 10. Going to have a few different things in this post.
Project Prospect named its Arizona Fall League Top 5 Prospects with 6 honorable mentions. Yonder Alonso was the 4th best prospect in the AFL and Mike Leake was an honorable mention. Here is what was said about Alonso:
His bat may be the best on this list; doesn’t offer speed or much defensive value.
Adam Foster, one of the main writers (and owner/operator of Project Prospect) also had this note on Alonso in the message board area of the site about this list:
Alonso’s bat is very polished. It’s rare to find guys who walk nearly as much as they strike out in the upper minors and at this kind of level. I think we’re going to see a lot more power out of Alonso next season when his wrist is healthy.
John Fay over at the Cincinnati Enquirer also has something up on the farm system. Go check it out, but here are a few quotes on some of the players.
[Manager David Bell on Mike Leake] “He was really impressive. It’s pretty amazing how he handled himself. But for a young kid, he really has a good idea of how to pitch. There are lot of things you can’t put your finger on. He changes speeds, arm angles. It’s not that he doesn’t have good stuff, but the other things stand out so much that nobody talks about his stuff.”
[Manager David Bell on Zack Cozart] “He’s solid. Very smart. He’s a winning player. He makes everyone around him better. He’s good in clutch situations. He has the range to be a big league shortstop, especially with his knowledge of the hitters.”

Tomorrow I hope to be able to look at some guys that may be worth taking a chance on in the Rule V draft, but I guess that all depends on how things go over the next 24 hours though as something could change that.
