Tonight at 8pm ET on MLB Network you can watch the Arizona League Fall Stars game. Representing the Cincinnati Reds will be RHP Chad Rogers and OF Yorman Rodriguez. The game will also be on MLB.com if you don’t have MLB Network.
Speaking of Yorman Rodriguez, MLB.com writer/scout Bernie Pleskoff has up an article, with some video from Arizona, on the outfielder.
I have only seen Rodriguez this fall, so I have nothing with which to compare. From what I have seen, however, his swing is nice and compact, and he is seeing pitches well. With a reputation of chasing pitches, Rodriguez’s pitch recognition has been good. In games I’ve scouted, he hasn’t offered at pitches he doesn’t think he can drive.
It is evident Rodriguez is working hard on plate discipline and pitch recognition this fall. To date, the results are encouraging.
Pleskoff has more to say at the article, so go give it a read.
Staying on topic of the Arizona Fall League, Major League Baseball will be testing out their new replay system this week at select Arizona Fall League games. Each day will have one game being used with the replay rules with some MLB brass as well as MLB umpires watching. The important part for us though is that each of those games will be on MLB Network. The Glendale Desert Dogs, which is the Cincinnati Reds team in the AFL, will be playing on Friday. Be sure to write it on your calendars.
Here is a quick update on the guys playing winter ball around the world. All leagues are now underway.
