Cincinnati Reds prospect Sebastian Elizalde continues to crush the ball in the Mexican Winter League. The league just wrapped up the first week of play and Elizalde leads the league in average, on-base percentage, slugging, OPS, hits, doubles, home runs and total bases. On Thursday he went 2-5 with a double, walk and a home run. On Friday night he went 2-3 with two doubles and a walk. The native Mexican is taking full advantage of playing in his home country and is hitting .520/.556/1.080 thus far for Naranjeros de Hermosillo.

The Dominican Winter League schedule kicked off on Thursday night, but just one game was played. The league swung into full action on Friday night. There are only four Reds listed on the rosters currently, though the rosters do tend to fluctuate throughout the season. Here are the guys and the teams that they are on:

Player Team
Junior Arias Gigantes del Cibao
Juan Silverio Gigantes del Cibao
Dylan Axelrod Toros del Este
Fabio Castillo Toros del Este

Only four guys and only on two teams. I’d imagine we will see more players on the teams as the season moves forward, but we will have to wait and see that. Only the winter leagues in Puerto Rico and Australia are still waiting to open up their seasons. Both will begin on October 30th.
