The Cincinnati Reds rolled out plenty of coaching news yesterday on the minor league front. The Dayton Dragons and Louisville Bats released their information first and Daytona followed up an hour later. You can read all about the coaching staffs that were put in place at those three stops here. Later in the afternoon we got releases from both the Billings Mustangs and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. That leaves us with just the Arizona League Reds who haven’t announced any of their coaching staff.
The Mustangs will see Dick Schofield return to manage in Billings for the second straight season. He led the team to the Pioneer League Championship in the 2014 season. Here is his managerial record:
He will be joined by Derrin Ebert as the pitching coach. Ebert will also be returning for his second season with the Mustangs. The hitting coach has not been named for the team.
Pensacola Blue Wahoos
The Blue Wahoos will have a new manager for the 2015 season. Pat Kelly will take over as manager for Pensacola after managing the Bakersfield Blaze to the playoffs in the 2014 season. Kelly has been managing in the Reds system since 2007, managing the rookie level Reds, Lynchburg and Billings in his time. Here is his full managerial record:
Returning to Pensacola will be hitting coach Alex Pelaez and pitching coach Jeff Fassero. Pelaez will be in his second season with the Blue Wahoos. He spent the five years prior to that as the hitting coach in Dayton, Billings and the rookie level Reds. Fassero returns as the pitching coach for his second season, his only two with the Reds.
