  • Donovan Hand allowed 2 earned in 6 innings with 5 strikeouts.
  • Ben Klimesh threw 2 hitless innings with a walk.
  • Drew Hayes threw a perfect inning with 2 strikeouts.

Game Notes

The Bats did all of the early scoring and they started in the 1st by plating three runs when Yorman Rodriguez singled with the bases loaded, but the right fielder made an error, bringing in an additional run as the bases were cleared with Rodriguez standing on third. In the 2nd inning they would add to more on a double by Hernan Iribarren that brought in a run and he’d score on an Ivan De Jesus single to make it 5-0. Louisville was right back at it the next inning and after the first two batters reached, Chris Dominguez smashed a home run to center to make it 8-0. Three straight walks led off the 4th inning and Chris Berset put a stamp on the scoring with a 2-run single to make it 10-0. With a big lead Donovan Hand was cruising through five innings before finally allowing two runs in the 6th. He turned the game over to the bullpen and the combination of Ben Klimesh and Drew Hayes didn’t allow a hit over the final three innings as Louisville moved a game over the .500 mark.

Game Notes

It’s nearly 1am as this game started at 8pm (for me) and went 14 innings, so I’m just going to provide notes on the 14th inning after no one scored beyond the 8th up to that point. In the top of the 14th inning of a 4-4 game Ryan Wright got things started with a 1-out walk. Jesse Winker followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Ray Chang then doubled to put Pensacola up 5-4. An intentional walk loaded the bases and another run came in when Seth Mejias-Brean was hit by a pitch. Kyle Skipworth grounded out, but brought in a third run to make it 7-4. A poor call to end the inning on a Juan Perez “ground out” should have made it 8-4, but it was a 14th inning call if you’ve ever seen one as he was safe by several feet. Kevin Shackelford came on for the bottom of the inning and only a bad hop on a ball to Ryan Wright kept Mississippi in the game as it led to an unearned run, but the Blue Wahoos held on for the extra-innings win.

Daytona won 7-6. Box Score

  • Junior Arias went 2-4 with a walk, 2 steals and 2 runs.
  • Alex Blandino went 2-5 with a home run (4), 2 runs and 3 RBI.
  • Sebastian Elizalde went 1-3 with a double, 2 walks, a steal, 2 runs and an RBI.
  • Chad Wallach went 2-4 with a walk.
  • Taylor Sparks went 2-4 with 2 RBI.
  • Barrett Astin threw 6 shutout innings with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

Game Notes

Junior Arias singled with one out in the 1st and proceeded to steal second and move to third on a ground out. After walking, Sebastian Elizalde took off to second base and the catcher threw toward the bag. Arias took off for home and both runners were safe as Daytona executed a perfect double steal to take a 1-0 lead. Taylor Sparks would single in Elizalde to make it 2-0. The score would stay there until the top of the 6th inning when Sparks would again single in Elizalde to make it 3-0. Barrett Astin lowered his ERA on the season to 2.28 as he tossed six shutout innings in the game before exiting. Alex Blandino boosted the lead for the Torgugas by smashing a 3-run home run in the 7th inning to make it 6-0. Nick Howard got through the 7th inning without a run allowed, but the 8th inning didn’t go as smoothly, allowing two singles, two walks and a sac fly before exiting the game. Before the inning was over it was 6-5 with Daytona barely hanging on. Sebastian Elizalde doubled in Alex Blandino in the top of the 9th to extend the lead to 7-5 and it turned out to be a big run as Bradenton scored a run in the bottom of the 9th, but their comeback failed as Daytona picked up their 28th win of the season.

Dayton won 4-3. Box Score

  • Ronald Bueno went 1-3 with 2 steals.
  • Gavin LaValley went 1-2 with a double, 2 runs and 2 walks.
  • Garrett Boulware went 1-3 with a walk and 2 RBI.
  • Paul Kronenfeld went 1-3 with a home run (2) and 2 RBI.
  • Jonathan Reynoso went 1-3.
  • Mark Armstrong allowed 2 runs in 5.1 innings with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
  • Joe Mantoni threw 1.2 perfect innings.
  • Conor Krauss threw a shutout inning with a walk.

Game Notes

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Garrett Boulware singled in Gavin LaValley, who had doubled to lead off the inning. South Bend took the lead two innings later with a 2-run inning, but it didn’t last long as Paul Kronenfeld homered with Gavin LaValley on to put Dayton up 3-2. They would add another run in the 5th with plenty of help from the Cubs pitching, who hit a batter and walked four more in the inning. The bullpen allowed a run in the top of the 8th, again making it a 1-run lead for the Dragons, but they held on for their 25th win of the season.
