John Fay reported earlier today that Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco will begin a rehab assignment with the Louisville Bats on Monday.
Mesoraco will begin rehab Monday in Columbus. Says he feels great. Price thinks rehab last 3, 4 games. #reds

The information that is missing from this tweet though seems to be whether or not Mesoraco will be playing any outfield, or if he will just be a designated hitter. The games will be played against the Columbus Clippers, the affiliate for the Cleveland Indians. While pitchers bat in both Double-A and Triple-A, that only happens when both teams playing are National League affiliates, so the designated hitter will be used in the series.
Mesoraco has noted that he doesn’t have any pain or issues with the hip in normal scenarios, only when he squats while trying to catch. The Reds have had him shagging fly balls in left field recently and seem to think that getting him time in left field, especially now with Marlon Byrd on the shelf for an unknown amount of time with a broken wrist is a possibility.
