Louisville won 5-2. Box Score

  • Adam Duvall went 2-5 with a double, solo home run (2) and 2 runs.
  • Brennan Boesch went 3-4 with a walk, home run (4), 2 runs and 3 RBI.
  • Ramon Cabrera went 1-3 with a walk.
  • Juan Silva went 1-3 with a walk and an RBI.
  • Brandon Finnegan threw 2.1 shutout innings with 3 walks and a strikeout.
  • Josh Smith threw 6.2 innings, allowing just 2 runs with 4 strikeouts.

Game Notes

The Bats grabbed an early lead when Brennan Boesch hit a solo home run in the 2nd inning. They would pad that lead with two more runs in the 3rd inning. Brandon Finnegan got the start and threw 2.1 shutout innings, but struggled big time with his control, throwing more balls, 24, than strikes, 20. Josh Smith took over from there and finished out the game, allowing just two runs in 6.2 innings pitched. Adam Duvall would hit a solo home run in the 9th inning.

Pensacola won 12-1, 1-0 in a double header.

Game 1: 12-1 win. Box Score

  • Bryson Smith went 1-5 with a double, walk, run and an RBI.
  • Alex Blandino went 2-5 with a double, walk, home run (8), 3 runs and 2 RBI.
  • Jesse Winker went 3-4 with a walk, 3 runs and a solo home run (8).
  • Marquez Smith went 1-3 with 2 walks, 2 runs and an RBI.
  • Seth Mejias-Brean went 3-5 with a double, run and 3 RBI.
  • Zach Vincej went 2-4 with a walk, double, run and an RBI.
  • Ray Chang went 1-1 with an RBI.
  • Sal Romano threw 2 perfect innings with 2 strikeouts. He also had a sac fly.
  • Jacob Johnson threw 5 hitless innings with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts.
  • Joel Bender threw a perfect inning with a strikeout.
  • Miguel Celestino threw a shutout inning with a walk and a strikeout.

Game Notes

This game began on Monday night and before the rain came between the 2nd and 3rd innings, Pensacola was leading 3-0 and Sal Romano had two perfect innings and an RBI. The rain didn’t let up and the game was suspended. The offense kept going as Alex Blandino, Jesse Winker, Marquez Smith and Seth Mejias-Brean combined to reach base 13 times in the game, score nine runs and drive in seven. That wasn’t the story of the game though. Jacob Johnson “started” the game when it resumed and he threw five hitless innings, taking a no-hitter through seven innings as he built on Sal Romano’s work from the night before. Joel Bender threw a perfect eighth inning to keep things going. Miguel Celestino came on for the 9th inning and the first batter of the inning hit a chopper that didn’t make it to the dirt. Seth Mejias-Brean charged and bare handed the ball and fired to first, but it was too late and it broke up the no-hit bid. It was the only hit of the game.

Game 2: 1-0 win. Box Score

  • Ryan Wright went 1-3.
  • Jesse Winker went 1-3.
  • Juan Duran went 1-3.
  • Yovan Gonzalez went 2-3 with a solo home run (2).
  • Wandy Peralta threw 5 shutout innings with a walk and 5 strikeouts.
  • Kevin Shackelford threw a shutout inning.
  • Zack Weiss threw a shutout inning with a strikeout.

Game Notes

Wandy Peralta picked up where the Blue Wahoos pitchers left off in game one, allowing just one hit through five innings pitched. He left with a 1-0 lead thanks to a 3rd inning solo home run by Yovan Gonzalez. That would be the only run Pensacola would score, but it’s all that they needed as Kevin Shackelford and Zack Weiss each tossed a shutout inning to seal the win and complete the double header sweep.

Daytona won 6-4. Box Score

  • Phillip Ervin went 2-5 with a double and 3 RBI.
  • Chad Wallach went 1-3 with a double and a walk.
  • Taylor Sparks went 1-3 with a walk, steal (12) and a run.
  • Jeff Gelalich went 2-3.
  • Joe Hudson went 2-4 with a run and an RBI.
  • Amir Garrett allowed 2 earned (3 total) in 5.1 innings with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts.
  • Nolan Becker threw a hitless inning with a walk and a strikeout.
  • El’Hajj Muhammad threw 2 hitless innings with 3 walks and a strikeout.

Game Notes

Dunedin struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning and they’d add another run in the 4th. Daytona would get a run back in the 4th and another in the 5th to tie the game up, but it wouldn’t remain tied for very long. The Blue Jays would grab the lead back on a wild play in the 6th inning when a rundown resulted in a strange play at the plate where I believe interference was called but the game log doesn’t say that is what happened, instead calling a missed tag by Joe Hudson. The Tortugas would tie things up when Joe Hudson singled in Ronald Bueno in the bottom of the 6th, but once again the game wouldn’t stay tied long as Dunedin scored in the 7th. The 8th inning saw Daytona break through as Taylor Sparks led off with a single and he moved up to second on a Ronald Bueno bunt. Carlton Daal had a long plate appearance result in walk to load the bases. Phillip Ervin handled the rest.

El’Hajj Muhammad would come back out for the 9th inning and work around a walk to pick up the save and push the Daytona record to 22-14 in the second half.

Dayton lost 8-1. Box Score

  • Cory Thompson went 3-4 with an RBI.
  • Avain Rachal went 1-2 with a HBP, double and a run.
  • Jake Ehret threw 1.2 shutout innings with a walk and 3 strikeouts.

Game Notes

Dayton would score first, taking a 1-0 lead on a Cory Thompson RBI single that brought in Avain Rachal. That was the only time the Dragons would score. Cedar Rapids would score eight runs moving forward as they picked up the win.

Billings had the day off. The Pioneer League All-Star game was played though and featured Ty Boyles, Blake Trahan and Brantley Bell. Box Score

AZL Reds won 3-2. Box Score

  • Rock Rucker threw a hitless inning with a walk and a strikeout.
  • Andrew Jordan threw 3 hitless innings with a walk and 4 strikeouts.

Game Notes

The Reds got things rolling in the 2nd inning when Leandro Santana tripled with two outs and scored on a wild pitch. The Brewers would get a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game up. In the top of the 4th inning Jake Turnbull singled in James Vasquez to put the Reds back on top. Like the 2nd inning, the Brewers would get a tying solo home run. In the top of the 5th James Vasquez put the Reds ahead for good when he doubled in Jon Matthews.
