The Daytona Tortugas were the first Cincinnati Reds farm team to announce their coaching staff for 2017. Manager Eli Marrero returns to Daytona after taking the team to a 76-61 record in 2016. It’s going to be his seventh season with the organization. He’s previously managed or coached in Arizona, Billings and Bakersfield. Tom Brown will also be returning to serve as the Tortugas pitching coach. It’s going to be his tenth season with the organization.

Alex Pelaez will be joining the staff as the hitting coach. He’s spent the previous three years in Pensacola as the hitting coach. It will be his ninth season in the organization. He’s been a hitting coach in eight of those seasons, managing the GCL Reds in 2009 before making the move to his current role. In a new role that will be on every team this year, the Tortugas will have Ricky Gutierrez as the bench coach. It’s his first year in the organization. The former big leaguer (12 seasons) had been coaching high school baseball.

The Louisville Bats also announced their coaching staff for the 2017 season. Manager Delino DeShields is back for his third season with Louisville. He took the team to a second place finish in the West Division last year. It will be his ninth year in the organization and his eighth as a manager. Jeff Fassero returns as the pitching coach. He took over for Ted Power when he was promoted to Cincinnati during the year, with Fassero joining the staff from his role as a roving pitching instructor. Fassero served as the pitching coach in Pensacola for two seasons before moving into the roving role.

Jody Davis is also returning to the Bats coaching staff as the hitting coach. Last season was his first in the organization, but he previously was a coach and manager in the Cubs and Padres organizations. Darryl Brinkley is making a big jump up the ranks as he takes on the newly created bench coach role for Louisville. Brinkley was the hitting coach for the Dominican Summer League Reds in 2016 and had previously worked as a hitting coach in the Dodgers organization.

As of now, no other teams have announced any of their coaches or managers. When they are announced, I will create a post for them.
