The 2017 Major League Baseball Draft is three weeks away from today, taking place on June 12th, 2017. It will continue on the 13th and 14th as well. The Cincinnati Reds will be drafting second overall, and it still seems that everyone believes it’s down to just three players: College left handed pitcher Brendan McKay, college right handed pitcher Kyle Wright or high school right handed pitcher Hunter Greene. They could always surprise with a pick though, so let’s take a look at how some of the top prospects in the draft performed last week.

The Pitchers

J.B. Bukauskas | RHP | North Carolina

In what is likely the final start of the regular season, J.B. Bukauskas was solid, but unspectacular against Duke on Friday night. He threw 7.0 innings and allowed two earned runs. He walked four batters and had eight strikeouts. On the season he has an ERA of 1.87 in 82.0 innings with 31 walks and 106 strikeouts.

Hunter Greene | RHP | Notre Dame HS (CA)

Hunter Greene will not pitch in games again this year. He’s throwing bullpen sessions for teams, but  he will not throw in a game again before he’s drafted.

MacKenzie Gore | LHP | Whiteville HS (NC)

MacKenzie Gore pitched in two games this past week as his team advanced in the playoffs. He struck out 15 batters without a walk in 6.2 combined innings of relief.

Brendan McKay | LHP | Louisville

It was a tough week for Brendan McKay against Florida State this past week. He allowed five earned runs (seven total) in 5.0 innings on five hits and four walks. He struck out six batters. The control for McKay has been an issue over the last two weeks. In the last three starts he’s walked 11 batters in 18.0 innings. For the season he’s posted a 2.22 ERA in 85.0 innings with 27 walks and 116 strikeouts. His velocity was back into the low 90’s this week after barely touching 90 in his previous start.

Kyle Wright | RHP | Vanderbilt

Another week goes by and another dominant performance by Kyle Wright. He allowed just one run in 7.1 innings against Alabama on Friday night, walking a batter and striking out 11. Over the last six weeks he’s now thrown 47.0 innings pitched, allowed just 17 hits and eight walks while striking out 62 batters. That’s come with a 1.15 ERA and a 0.53 WHIP. On the year he’s down to a 2.91 ERA in 89.2 innings with 27 walks and 104 strikeouts.

The Hitters

Jord0n Adell | OF | Ballard HS (KY)

Jordon Adell only played in two games last week but made them both count. He went 5-7 with a walk, two doubles and two home runs. He also stole three bases, scored fived runs and drove in five. The three home runs pushed him to 24 on the season, which is now in the Top 10 all time for a single season in national high school history. He’s hitting .553/.679/1.415 on the season with 34 walks and 10 strikeouts.

Royce Lewis | SS | JSerra HS (CA)

JSerra only had one game last week. Royce Lewis went 2-3, scored three runs and stole a base in the game. That pushed his season line to .388/.574/.663 with 24 walks, eight strikeouts, six doubles, two triples and four home runs.

Austin Beck | OF | North Davidson HS (NC)

The season came to an end last week for Austin Beck and North Davidson. While his team lost, Beck did all that he could to prevent it. He went 4-4 with three home runs in the playoff game. He finished the year hitting .590/.700/1.218 with 12 home runs.
