What—no HR for Trahan?
Great pitching performance to Salazar in Dayton and Stockton for the AZL Reds!
where is debby santana ????
He’s been playing with the AZL Reds.
Mitch Nay, another DNP-coach’s decision. Glad they moved him up with a plan on how to play him regularly.
With Sherm Johnson released, he should get more playing time. He has played in 7 of the last 10 games, starting 6 of them, so it is not like he has been buried on the bench. He should be playing ahead of Colon, though.
True not buried, but getting called up and not starting 40% of the games isn’t exactly great for evaluation purposes either. They should be seeing if they need to protect him this offseason and that question will be easier to answer with more data at the highest level. Agree he should be playing over Colon, and honestly over Trahan as well (with Blandino shifting to SS).
Wendell Marerro with 6 hits and 3 walks in the last 3 games. Now hitting .323/.425/.500 in the AZL at 18.
We touched on TStephenson yesterday and he goes out and has a great night.
Watch out for Marerro tonight to add big to your numbers.
I didn’t realize that Lavarnway is 31 years old. Have to feel for those career MiLeaguers. Hope he can land a ML spot somewhere. Big strong catcher with some pop.
Congratulations to the Reds for successfully transforming a pitching-starved franchise into a very-worthy staff. I can’t deny that maturity (Castillo, Mahle), health (DeSclafani), plus improved coaching (Johnson) played a big role, but trades are what did it. Over the course of 1 year the Reds traded away a net of 3 ML players (Duvall, Bailey, & Gennett), plus 7 MiL properties( #3Trammel, #7 Long, #9 Downs, #14 Gray, the 2019 CBA pick, & unranked prospects Moss, Rainey (all from Doug’s 2018 midseason top 25 list)).They acquired a net of Sonny Gray (through 2022 with a 2023 option), Alex Wood (through this season), Trevor Bauer (through 2020), Kyle Farmer, Lucas Sims, James Hannah (prospect #10 on current top 30 list), & R. San Martin. High price to pay, but there is a premium on quality ML pitching. Finally nice to see Reds management go all-in instead of half-way. With Lodolo, Greene, Santillan, etc. in the minors, plus all the BP arms at or near ML-readiness; the Reds have the pitching. Now let’s see if they can manage it.
Mahle is 2-10 with ERA near 5. Not in rotation. Nor should he be. AAA to get straightened out instead.
Reds had strong SP rotation in 2010, 2012, and 2013.
Thank you, Oldtimer. Everyone of these sites talks about Mahle as though he has had a breakout season. As you point out, he has had a broken season. We had a SP staff built around guys with 2-10 records and 5 ERA. That’s how we got four years of <70 wins.
He may become a foundation piece in the future, his MiLB record suggests such, but he’s not there yet.
Nice night for Scantlin. Got the monkey off his back by getting his first hit as a 2019 Dragon. Topped it off with a 9th inning walk and then scoring the walk-off run from first base on Bautista’s hit into the right field corner.
There has been a slight change to Dragon’s line up lately Bautista has moved to the lead-off spot with Siani moving to #2.
Dragons go for 4-game sweep of first place Hot Rods (Rays) tonight.
