In what seems to be a completely unannounced move that was just reported on Saturday afternoon despite being used in games earlier this week, Major League Baseball is experimenting with a computerized strikezone in the Arizona Fall League. The system will not be for every game. The system is only in place at Salt River Fields, which this season is the home for the Salt River Rafters and the Scottsdale Scorpions. Cincinnati’s team, the Glendale Desert Dogs participated in one such game on Friday night. Unfortunately Salt River Fields is the home of two teams in the opposite division. Glendale will only play there three more times this AFL season, so the Reds players will have very limited exposure to this.
Saturday Night’s Glendale Desert Dog Performances
Glendale picked up their first win on Saturday night, moving to 1-3 on the season. They pitched a combined shutout and won a 1-0 contest. Tyler Stephenson started at catcher, hit cleanup, and went 1-3 in the game. He was the only Red in the starting nine. Dauri Moreta pitched out of the bullpen, throwing a hitless 7th inning with a walk and a strikeout.

The big names include Joey Votto, Amir Garrett, Michael Lorenzen, Robert Stephenson, Aristides Aquino, and Nick Lodolo. But there are more, including some Major Leaguers as well as minor leaguers.
