The Triple-A Louisville Bats have released their opening day roster (subject to change). They are the final of the Cincinnati Reds four full-season teams to unveil their roster and it’s headlined by several of the top pitching prospects, including Tony Santillan and Vladimir Gutierrez. Let’s jump right on into the 28 guys that will be there opening day:

SP Vladimir Gutierrez C Rocky Gale
SP Riley O’Brien C Chris Okey
SP Tony Santillan C Beau Taylor
SP Braden Shipley IF Brantley Bell
SP Bo Takahashi IF Cheslor Cuthbert
RP Tim Adleman IF Michael De Leon
RP R.J. Alaniz IF Mike Freeman
RP Brad Brach IF Errol Robinson
RP Shane Carle IF Alfredo Rodriguez
RP Brandon Finnegan IF Max Schrock
RP Edgar Garcia OF Nicky Delmonico
RP Josh Osich OF TJ Friedl
RP Cionel Perez OF Scott Heineman
RP Hector Perez OF Mark Payton
RP Art Warren OF Dwight Smith Jr.

The rotation features three of the Cincinnati Reds top 25 prospects with Gutierrez, Santillan, and Riley O’Brien. They’ll be joined by Braden Shipley and Bo Takahashi. Gutierrez spent the winter pitching for Licey in the Dominican Winter League and then was in big league camp with the Reds before joining the alternate site (in Louisville) when spring training was over. Much of the roster was already in Louisville as a part of the alternate site team.

Among the position player group the only top 25 prospect is outfielder TJ Friedl. Some of the guys here aren’t prospect list eligible, but many of the guys are veteran types who provide solid depth for the big league club if and when they need someone. Most of the group has spent at least some time in the big leagues in past seasons.

Brandon Finnegan did a little bit of starting and relieving in spring training but he’s going to be a reliever with Louisville this year. The lefty was initially in early minor league camp, but he performed well enough that in mid-March the Reds gave him an official invite to big league camp.

I hadn’t realized Brad Brach had signed. If he can regain his old form, that could be a big help to the big league pen.

    Doug,
Do we know what players remain in Arizona in “extended spring training”?

    • Doug Gray

Sort of, yes. I have the roster of who was in Arizona in April, and we’ve got all the rosters now, so we can deduct from there. That said, some guys are just now getting to Arizona for extended, too. With protocols there were limits on how many guys could be in camp at once, so some guys were not in Goodyear for spring training in April and are arriving now-ish. I’m hoping to get a list of who is still out there soon.

Who’s missing from your first draft list? I didn’t see Heatherly and Lillie?

    • BhamRedsfan

Also, that’s 30 players and doesn’t include Goudeau; so there are more moves to make.

      • Doug Gray

Right. Until tomorrow, these rosters aren’t technically official. Goudeau may not show up for a few days depending on how the intake process works for the minor leagues.

Oh yes, Jacob Heatherly I had forgotten about him. A pitcher snatched from going to college, right?

Blake Trahan? Released, retired or injured?
