The Arizona Complex League Reds were joined by the Dominican Summer League Reds as teams that play on Monday in the farm system. It was the first game of the year for the DSL Reds. Coverage of them will remain a bit fluid, but I’ll listen to you guys and gals – do you want them to be included in the daily recaps?

If you are interested in getting emailed every day during the season with additional game notes and a rundown on how the Cincinnati Reds Top 25 Prospects performed (along with other perks) you can sign up to support the site through Patreon and get all of that for a few bucks a month. If that’s something that sounds interesting you can get more information here.

I for one am indifferent about the DSL Reds. Maybe once in a while highlight a player who is doing particularly well.

Doug, don’t need a full DSL write up but would be interesting to get a weekly article on their top prospects: Almonte, Valdez, Rijo and others.

I guess I am not as educated on the DSL league players as I should be. So I read the coverage each day but it doesn’t mean much to me. I could certainly get by with a weekly update but if it has more meaning for others it is OK as it goes now. We all have different interests which is a good thing.

I’m always happy to have you do more work. :)

Actually, I can easily live without the daily update from the DSL. Particularly if doing it takes time away from you doing other stuff on the guys that we’re more familiar with.

Perhaps a weekly (or monthly) ….”This Week’s (Month’s) Highlights from the DSL.” where you could highlight a few players that are doing well, and that we might want to track. (particularly the big $$ FA signings)

I respectfully disagree again. It’s good to follow what all Reds farmhands are doing.

Off topic a bit, but in perusing the Reds top 30 prospects list, I notice several players whose projected arrival at the major league level is 2021, yet those players are still in A or A+. Obviously they are very unlikely to make the jump to the majors from A or A+ in 2021, especially to a team that is contending. So my question is, how is it determined what a player’s projected big league arrival year is, and are those years ever revised?

As far as DSL is concerned, I mainly am interested in how the top 30 prospects are doing. I could expand that to top 50 or higher if history shows that a top 50 or top 100 prospect has more than a minuscule chance of ever making it to the bigs.

While I appreciate the summaries of minor league games and performers, every minor league game box score is readily available. If Doug did no more than list the scores and the links to the minor league box scores he could save himself a lot of work spent transferring data. Anyone truly interested in minor league performance can access the box score with a simple click on the link.

I don’t know where you are seeing ETA’s, so it’s impossible to answer your question about that with precision – but yes, the ETA can and is revised all of the time. Guys get better quicker than expected, guys fail to develop as expected, etc.

I will be content with whatever is chosen. The weekly recaps on DSL players, or just keeping tabs on the guys that you are high on would be adequate. Daily updates are nice too, but not worth it to me if in order to do so, you have to lose sleep or add significant stress to life.

Sometimes we forget how spoiled we can become, getting daily instant info on things that are happening thousands of miles away

Let me add to the discussion/thought process with regards to the DSL stuff:

My two thoughts were: Use Monday/Tuesday as a “let’s check in on the DSL guys” within the game review since it’s just them and the ACL Reds. The DSL Reds could get more of a write up than just the box score treatment since they wouldn’t be getting the daily treatment.

Doing it every day. While it does add a little bit more work, their games are over by 2pm. So if they got the “box score” treatment/recap, it’s not something that would add 30 minutes to the end of my night and keep me working until, say 1-2am instead of 1230-1:30am – I’d have their part of the work done in the afternoon, then just add the normal stuff to it.

It’s more work either way. It’s probably a little *less* work to do it each Monday, but it might feel like more work since it’ll be a bunch more work that day than just a little extra work on the 5 days a week that they do play.

I for one would like to see the recap every day. There are a few prospects in the top 20 playing there and with no one playing last year could be a few break out players like has happened stateside.

Kind of funny when milb ran things the minors didn’t play on the MLB All Star game night now with MLB in charge they do.

    • Doug Gray

The amount of *issues* I’ve heard about that have happened because the people brought in by MLB simply have no clue at all about what the minors do and or are about has been hilarious, but not in a good way.

I really think the six game series is going to really damage season ticket sales. Between working and my half season package I saw West Michigan 6 times last week. It would have been three without work and I just don’t want to see the same team that many times in a week.
