Allan Cerda homered and tripled as he continued to tear the cover off of the ball in Daytona, Joe Boyle’s return to the mound continued to go well as he struck out 7 in Arizona, Wilson Garcia picked up his 5th homer of August for Chattanooga in their doubleheader, and Yerlin Confidan smacked his 5th homer for the ACL Reds.

Boyle has been impressive in his rehab. Is he ready to Dayton at once? Cerda got his shape so he is crushing the ball in last games and perhaps getting ready to be promoted …

I already enjoy watching McLain play. He seems to have a competitive attitude towards the game.

Saw McLain in person for first time last night and can say I really did not see anything special. It was just one game admittedly. He really looked smaller than I expected. I have seen Ivan Johnson a couple times and my first impressions have been much more positive.

I’m not saying he was bad but just when you see a number 1 pick you expect exceptional. Example: With Senzel you saw an extra gear forward or laterally when needed. I expect exceptional defensive range I saw solid average-plus range. Again I have seen him play one game. He walked twice in 4 plate appearances. Good not exceptional. Kindill said he enjoyed watching him play I just commented in response I didn’t see him do anything exceptional. Maybe next game he will. Hopefully.

Cerda is going to be a factor in centerfield hopefully sooner than later. We need a young talented CF

perhaps I missed it, but any update on Lodolo, last report was he was skipped with arm pain of some sort then crickets

    • Doug Gray

He’s missed one start so far. Not put on the IL, which is a good sign. But no updates.

I think Logan Morrison missed 6 weeks or so before going on the IL, then was re-activated a week or two later, so am not really trusting minor league ILs but will go with your cup half full interpretation :)

      • Doug Gray

That was certainly one of the stranger things I’ve ever seen. That won’t happen with a guy like Lodolo.

Trade Rumors reporting Mets and Rangers going after Kyle Boddy for 2022 after Reds contract expires. Guess we will find out what Reds thought of his work.

    • Doug Gray

Eh, that’s sort of been debunked. The original report was that he had meetings with them this past week. That report was then updated within like an hour of being published that he did not in fact have meetings with them. Seems MLBTR did not read the update.
