Narciso Crook and TJ Friedl remained hot at the plate while Reiver Sanmartin pitched well in a Louisville win, Chattanooga had an epic 9th inning comeback and then a big collapse, Drew Mount continues to quietly rake for the Lookouts, Christian Roa tossed a career high 7 innings in a Dayton extra-innings win, and Daniel Vellojin and Rece Hinds went deep for Daytona in their win.

Sanmartin putting together a nice season. I assume he will go on 40-man this winter. They would most certainly lose him in the Rule V Draft.

I had forgotten about him. He could probably be helping at the ML level as well as Moreta. The problem is Garrett is in the same boat as Suarez and Moose. We have expensive players taking up roster spots who can’t help us. If we DFA them we lose them but still have to pay them if they sign with someone else.

Garrett is making 1.5 million this season. He is arbitration eligible the next two seasons. What you said about him is false.

What! You mean some of the GM wannabees posting on these sites don’t actually have all the information they need to make a proper decision? Shocking!

I would have liked to see them send Amir to AAA in June and given him 5 starts to see if that might have straightened him out. He could have worked on mechanics in non stress setting at the beginning of a game and get a lot of repetition. An old school approach.

      • Alan Horn

What is false about he can’t help us? He walks the lead off man and proceeds to get lit up game after game all season long. I and every other Reds fan run up the white flag when he comes in. 1.5 million is a lot over a few seasons. Especially when you consider Farmer only makes around 600 thousand for what he has provided. He is so bad that even Bell hesitates to bring him in. That doesn’t even consider his bush league antics early in the season against the Cubs.

Doc, if I were a betting man(I am not) , I would bet you have some connection to Reds ownership or Reds management.

      • Alan Horn

If he has options, then why in the world hasn’t he been sent down for Moreta or Sanmartin? For that matter Lopez or Barreo. We are sitting here struggling for roster spots and we have him basically just killing a roster spot. I was under the impression he had no options. This may be even worse.

      • RobL

Alan, the false portion was equating Garrett to Suarez and Moose. They have large contracts for multiple years left. Those we would be on the hook for. We are only on the hook for a prorated 1.5 million with Garrett and nothing else. That is surely not equivalent. If your point was that we have a player dreadfully underperforming, then that is true. However, you seemed to suggest that it was for financial reasons that Garrett is an albatross.

True Mk. Throwing a little a lot helps control(for some). As Doug mentioned , we can’t DFA him without likely losing him to waivers. They must think he has some trade value in the off season. Same with Suarez and Moose. With the DH someone might bite on a sweetened deal(prospects/money).

      • Alan Horn

RobL, I think were just on different wavelength(my fault for not being clearer). What I meant was the performance and not the money (Garrett’s case) and it being hard to rid ourselves of it without DFA Garrett(meaning we lose him with no return). You are right in that we wouldn’t lose a lot of money (especially if someone picked him up which they likely would).

    • Alan Horn

MK, does he have options to send him down? I didn’t think he did but I could be wrong.

      • Alan Horn

Thanks Doug. So if we DFA him, he would likely be claimed on waivers. I stand by position that he is taking up a roster spot and giving little return mainly because we would lose him if he is FDA’ed. That makes Suarez, Moose, Garrett, Cabrera and Brach. 5 unproductive roster spots and we can’t bring up Barreo, Lopez, Moreta or Sanmartin.

      • Alan Horn

DFA’ed. I have had Vertigo the last couple of days. Not seeing the best I should be.

Great to see some nice pitching performances last night. San Martin, Ashcroft, Roa, Free and Abbott. Very impressed with moretta, and diehl – the relievers in Louisville. And Perez seems to be improving there also. Can’t give up on lefthanders.

interested to see what comes of the first five names on the Louisville Bats update in 2022: Freidl, Freeman, Lopez, Crook, Rodriguez.

H Rod is already 27 years old; OPS under. 700. Freeman is 34 at best the 27th guy on a 26 man roster. Both are behind Barerro, Farmer and Blandino. Is there someone in AA that will push to be Louisville’s starting SS next year? Don’t think McClain starts in AAA next year.

I’m guessing Freidl gets a shot next year as a 5th OF. Most likely has an edge over Crook since he can play CF. Both those guys are 26.

Lopez blocked by Moustakis, Suarez at 3B. At 2B & Utility behind India. Farmer and Blandino (assuming Barrero starts.) Lopez is only 25 so maybe the 1st bat called up from AAA.

Maybe Leonardo Rivas at AAA short. Or possibly Mike Freeman if they can get him on a minor league deal as organizational depth.
