The Cincinnati Reds have announced the coaching staff for the Triple-A Louisville Bats for the 2022 season. Manager Pat Kelly will be returning as the Bats manager. He’s been working with the organization since 2007 as a manager (GCL Reds, Billings, Lynchburg, Bakersfield, Pensacola, Chattanooga, and Louisville), as well as the big league club’s bench coach in 2018. The 2022 season will be his 31st year in which he’s been the manager of a minor league team.

Also coming back to the Bats for this upcoming season are pitching coach Seth Etherton and hitting coach Alex Pelaez. Etherton will be in his 7th season with the organization. The former big league pitcher has been the pitching coach in Billings, Dayton, Chattanooga, and Louisville in previous seasons dating back to 2016. Before joining Cincinnati he was the pitching coach for the University of San Francisco. Pelaez, a former big leaguer, has been with the organization since 2009 and has served as the hitting coach for the GCL Reds, Billings, Dayton, Daytona, Pensacola, and Louisville.

Dick Schofield will be the bench coach. For Schofield it’s a return to a former gig. In 2021 he served as the Development Coach for Low-A Daytona. He had previously served as the Bats bench coach in 2018 and 2019, though in 2018 the stay was short as he was promoted to manager when Pat Kelly was promoted to the Reds coaching staff in early April that year. This will be Schofield’s 10th season in the organization.

Mike Jacobs has been named as the teams game planning and outfield coach. This will be the first year in the organization for Jacobs, a former big leaguer who has 100 career home runs. He was the manager for the High-A Beloit Snappers in 2021 as a member of the Miami Marlins organization. Prior to that he had managed at various levels in their organization since 2017.
