It took three days, but Louisville completed a comeback win from Thursday on Saturday. Isiah Gilliam and Robbie Tenerowicz continued to swing hot bats for Chattanooga, Alex McGarry hit his organizational best 8th homer of the year for Dayton, and Michel Triana’s grand slam combined with another strong start from Sam Benschoter led to a Daytona shutout win.

    What’s a reasonable time to expect a promotion of McLain? For me the sooner the better on McLain, Torres, and McGarry. Promoting McLain, and Torres would also separate out our top SS to the top 3 levels, giving them more playing time at SS. McGarry is probably not the answer to who replaces Joey, but he does seem to be ready for the next level. Maybe another month, or 2? I’d be happy if they get more than half the season at their respective next levels.

      McGarry has hit for power but consider these stats for 3 guys in their 23-24 age seasons:
      Player A: walk rate- 4.0%/K rate- 22.7%
      Player B: walk rate- 6.4%/K rate-35.6%
      Player C: walk rate- 7.8%/K rate- 27.1%

      Player A did it at AAA, B at low and high A, C at AA/AAA

      A= Juan Franicsco, B=McGarry, C= Aquino

        It’s not just the power, but also the average. He’s got a .299 BA to go along with 8 HR, while sporting a 1.079 OPS. Doubtful he learns to be more selective in A+. Maybe tougher pitching will be a catalyst for improvement. Iron sharpens iron.

      You don’t promote McLain until you know what’s going to happen with Barrero. Let Jose return, go to Triple-A to rehab and see how that goes. You want both of those guys playing shortstop in the minor leagues for now. You can’t do that if both guys are in Triple-A. Keep McLain in Chattanooga for another month or two, let him see the league twice, see how he adjusts to their adjustments.

        That’s a really good point, I just assumed Barrero would be on the Reds when he returned. If Farmer doesn’t rebound, Barrero may just have a brief AAA rehab, but if Farmer is doing well, they may extend Barrero in AAA a bit longer.

    To be clear I really have nothing against McGarry, I hope he turns into the next Lee May or Tony Perez. But he has a .400 BABIP this year which will not continue. And my point with the comparison is we have seen guys with really good power but alot of swing and miss and they have not improved as they go up in levels they tend to just miss more.

    Holy Moly, Andrew Abbott. 6 innings of 3-hit, zero walk, 6 k ball, and 9/2 ground outs to fly outs.

    I’d say this guy is arriving quickly.

        Best pitchers this year.
        1 Abbott
        2 Boyle
        3 Aguiar

        He has indeed. He may have Lodolo-like polish. It’ll be kind of a bummer for Dayton but I can’t see him needing much more of a tuneup in A ball. He’s changing the equation every five days.
