Watching the Futures Game was frustrating. I wish the announcers were more interested in baseball and less interested in interviewing people. My wife commented that it appeared they thought baseball was boring so they had to do something else.

Happy draft day, Doug! Hope your well rested for all the coverage the next few days. Looking forward to what you have to write about the new guys coming to the Reds’ system. Thanks for all you do on here!

Nicolino’s last few starts have helped him make a case to get a few starts with the Reds later this summer depending on the outcome of the deadline and if/when any of the young dudes reach innings limits.

Aquino’s 3 games on rehab so far have given me a little rekindled hope for him. He’s really good at doing that. 3 walks in 12 PAs. Not sure when or if he’s ever had 3 walks in a 3 game span with the Reds.

      Hope you’re*** well rested. Oops

      Anyway, happy draft day 1!

I got less than 5 hours of sleep. It’s going to be a rough day.

Ah man, I’m sorry. Hope it at least makes it a little better knowing that all of us here that visit RML are much appreciative of the work you do and are about to do the next 3 nights.

Is Quintana a good defender? He’s entering into the 2023-24 picture as a bench bat.

Converted from a SS in college. I was listening to a podcast. Don’t remember who, but they acted like he was very good.

Hendrick hasn’t been hurt by the promotion to Dayton. Nearly identical numbers to Daytona. At least that explains a little about the promotion.

Tom – I was willing to look the other way before this year but after almost 300 at bats it’s clear he has way too much swing and miss in his game. He’s going to need to change a ton to advance past high A. I felt like Reece hinds was in a similar position but it looked like he was making some changes. Hendricks may be too stubborn to change. Reds need to sit gun down and explain things.

I agree. I haven’t given up on him. Just think it’s interesting his numbers haven’t gotten better or worse after the promotion.

I heard Callis say 30 of 30 GMs were surveyed about the draft date being ASG weekend and all 30 did not like it. The first time all 30 have agreed on anything.

I thought the idea had merit but now it seems so crowded.

I propose moving it to first weekend in July and trot those first rounders out on 4th of July to show the fans. Make it about pursuing opportunity and chasing the American dream. Marketing!!!

The last weekend of June is the NBA draft. That won’t work. (Or would it???)

Earlier than that it is basically back to where it was in early June.

Callis and others might prefer that. His idea is to put the draft on the same weekend as the Omaha college World Series. College players are already there, scouts, execs, it adds attention to the college game, etc. I like that idea too.

I think as it had been, the conclusion was that the MLB draft didn’t have the gravitas to stand on its own. I still agree with that. The CWS or 4th of July (or NBA draft weekend?) are events to co-opt to build attention for the game.
