Ironically Krall was interviewed during the Reds game just before the Lively meltdown and subsequent IL trip. When asked about Phillips being promoted he didn’t seem ready to give Reds fans what they want. But looks like they will be getting it anyways. Philips pitching the same day as Lively makes a spot start against the Nationals on Sunday a strong possibility. Which is probably a great audition since the Nationals are pretty much a minor league squad. I guess the Reds could just call up Kennedy again to pitch against the Nationals but that seems like a missed opportunity to get a good look at Phillips. Not sure if Phillips needs to be added to 40 man this off-season or not but I imagine they aren’t going to wait that long anyway. I’m sure we will find out in the next day or two.
He basically has to say that guys in the minor leagues aren’t “ready” just in case someone wants to file a grievance for keeping them in the minors longer than they should have been.
Kennedy threw yesterday so he would have just 3 days of rest on Sunday…Could be Levi Stoudt?
If they recall Stoudt I think that he’d have to be here for the rest of the season or be exposed to waivers. The new CBA limits number of times a player can be optioned in a given year, and by my count he’s at 5 (March 11th, April 20th, May 14th, June 26th, July 24th).
Holt with first save at Dayton, Aranguren second save at Daytona.
I have seen someone mention Richardson as a candidate which would make sense since he is already on the 40 man roster. Even though he’s on an innings limit, Phillips wouldn’t really be throwing much more than one or two more innings additional innings per start.
