The Australian Baseball League championship series is underway with Adelaide and Perth squaring up. On Friday morning the two teams began the championship and it was a fun one. Adelaide scored three runs to tie the game up at 3-3 in the 6th inning. Neither team would score again until the 13th inning when Carlos Sanchez came to the plate with two men on and smacked a walk-off single (in the box score he’s currently credited with a double, but the video shows he never made it to the second base bag) to seal the win for Perth and give them a 1-0 series lead.

On the night, Sanchez finished with two hits – one double, plus the “double” from the walk off – as well as a walk and two runs batted in. He’s been on fire since January began. In 11 regular season games with Perth in January he hit .333/.465/.545 with five doubles, a triple, nine walks, and just five strikeouts. In four playoff games he’s hit .357/.500/.714 with four walks, two doubles, a home run, and three strikeouts.

You can forget how lanky Sanchez is, but he looks like he may have added an inch or so. Still, at 6’0″, 177, there’s room to add strength. Nice LH stroke, too.

Could be so many breakouts this year we could be a Clearasil ad.

Dave, there are a lot of starving comedians. You have that potential.
