The Dominican Summer League All-Star game will take place on Sunday. As things stand in 2026 it’s the only league that actually has an All-Star game. When Major League Baseball took over the minor leagues they got rid of the in-season All-Star games for the minor leagues and just began to name players to “post season All-Star teams”. On Thursday morning the Dominican Summer League and Minor League Baseball announced the rosters for the contest. Three players from the Reds organization made the team.
It’s worth noting that this game is a National League versus American League game. And that there are 51 teams in the league as most organizations have two clubs in the league – including Cincinnati, who has the Reds and the Rojos. Each side had 40 players named to the All-Star team, for a total of 80 players.
As for the players from the Reds organization who made the team, there were two outfielders and a pitcher. Eider Gutierrez and Angel Nunez will be representing the club as outfielders. Ysaias Escalona will be the lone pitching representative for the organization this year.
The 2025 season for Ysaias Escalona didn’t go as well as he would have liked. He threw 25.2 innings with a 5.26 ERA, gave up 22 hits, walked 17 batters, and had 25 strikeouts while pitching for the DSL Reds. Things have gone very differently so far in 2026. The Venezuelan native has thrown 33.1 innings this season and has walked just nine batters, cutting his walk rate in a big way. He’s also struck out 28 batters, which has increased his strikeout rate by a small amount. The right-handed starter has allowed one earned run this season while giving up just 20 hits. That’s led to an ERA of 0.27. That leads the league by 0.61.
Angel Nunez was Cincinnati’s top international signing in 2026. The 17-year-old from the Dominican Republic has hit well this season. Following today’s game he’s now hitting .302/.460/.510 through 28 games played. During that time he’s scored 26 tunes, drove in 20, had 12 extra-base hits, walked 26 times, stolen 14 bases in 17 attempts, and he’s struck out 19 times. He’s put together a very good, and very well-rounded debut so far. (Video below of a grand slam in his first professional game)
Eider Gutierrez, like Nunez, signed with the Reds in January of this year as a part of the newest signing class. He also began the year with the Rojos, but after playing 13 games with them he was moved to the DSL Reds roster. He’s crushed the ball for both of them. The right-handed hitting Venezuelan his .357/.509/.619 with the Rojos to begin the year. Since joining the Reds he’s hit .392/.441/.549 in 14 games. Overall that’s been good for a .376 batting average, a .474 on-base percentage, and a .581 slugging percentage. He has also gone 14-for-17 in stolen base attempts while scoring 26 runs and driving in 14 in his 27 games played. Gutierrez has also struck out as often as he’s walked – 14 times on the season in his 116 plate appearances.
