Minor League Baseball and the Dominican Summer League have announced their post-season All-Star team as well as the league award winners. The Dominican Summer League is the only league in the minors that actually has an All-Star game, so it’s a bit strange that they are also having a postseason All-Star team named like the leagues that don’t have an All-Star game. That means the league has two sets of All-Stars. With that said, the Dominican Summer League Reds had two pitchers named to the All-Star team after the season ended. Starting pitcher Ysaias Escalona and reliever Luis Avila made the team that featured four starters and two relievers.
Having Ysaias Escalona as an All-Star was an easy choice. He was also named as the Pitcher of the Year in the league. We wrote about that earlier today. The right-handed pitcher went 10-0 in the regular season for the DSL Reds in his 14 games. He had a league best ERA of 0.99 on the season, which was the best in the league. Escalona also led the league in innings pitched. In 10 of his 14 games he didn’t allow an earned run. At just one point in the season did his ERA climb above the 1.00 mark when a game was completed and it was in his second to final start of the season when it jumped up to 1.08. He came back the next week and fired off 5.0 shutout innings to finish the regular season at 0.99.
Like Escalona, Luis Avila spent the full season with the DSL Reds. It was the 19-year-old’s second year with the club and he was just as good in 2026 as he was in 2025, but he threw a few more innings this time around. The native of Venezuela pitched in 15 games and posted a 1.88 ERA while serving as the closer for the team. All 15 games he pitched in were games he finished and he had seven saves. That tied him for the league lead. Avila walked just four batters and had 22 strikeouts on the year while having a WHIP of 0.83.
