In 11 September games Leo Balcazar is hitting .278/.395/.500/.895. He’s been kind of the forgotten man this year after a dreadful June/July/August after a solid April/May. It’s nice to see him finishing strong, he doesn’t even turn 23 until next June, he could still develop into a valuable INF bench option capable of playing SS, 3B, and 2B.

Nice recovery of the season by Blacazar. I still think he has potential. He is only 22 and will still be 22 for a good chuck of 2027.

Finally, an Aguilar sighting. Nice to see him back on the hill. Hopefully he can get some innings in the fall league.

Solensky also intrigues me. He has pitched well in his short time with us. We sorely need starting pitching depth in upper minors.

Even with the slump, he has tied his career high in HRs and extended his career high in doubles from 20 to 25, RBIs from 57 to 68, and BBs from 52 to 62 (10.8%)
His K’s are up but he still is only striking out at 18.8%. The BA, OBP and SLG aredown, so he knows he has to improve his hit tool. But, coming out of last year, he knew he had to work on his power, which it looks like he has to some degree (he just needs more). A full year at AAA should help.

Leo isn’t go to race up any lists at this point, and may fall a fair amount given his season numbers as well as the new acquisitions. But that almost doesn’t matter as long as he holds onto his 40-man spot and hits enough to be an option if/when they need him. I think the addition of Brito has to have some impact on his immediate place on the depth chart, but Brito is as limited as Balcazar, just more experienced.

I am also puzzled by the club’s view of Arroyo. Is he now considered a failure at 2B? That was his clearest path to the MLs given Elly. But they acquired Brito, a 2B, then started playing Arroyo at 3B. What is Edwin’s position moving forward, not to mention Leo’s? Maybe they’ll let Arroyo and Balcazar alternate at SS and 2B next year like they have previously and let Brito back up whoever plays 2B with the Reds. Anyone’s guess is as good as mine.

Sitting Carter Graham on the last game of the season when he has a chance at 30 HRs (with his 30 doubles). Playing the veterans at 1B, 2B, and in LF, but with Aliendo at DH. Maybe they gave him a pat on the back and said it’s been a good season, take a break. Maybe he’ll get a PH chance.
