Louisville lost last night, but Donald Lutz had a good night at the plate, going 2-4 with his 12th homer of the season, scored two runs and he drove in two runs. After starting the minor league season on fire, ripping through the Southern League, things slowed down a bit when he was promoted to Triple-A and then the big leagues a week later. Once July rolled around, at least on the minor league side of things, he really turned things around. Since July 1st he has hit .284/.330/.510 in 112 plate appearances with the Bats.
Another day and another multiple hit game for Kyle Waldrop. Last night the outfielder extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a 2-5 game where he also hit his 13th home run of the season. Of the 10 games in his hit streak, eight of them have been multiple hit games. He’s hit .488/.500/.860 during the streak with just four strikeouts. The hot stretch has pushed his season line to .339/.388/.515 between Bakersfield and Pensacola.
It had been nearly a week since Jacob Johnson had pitched for Bakersfield before last night, but the right hander was able to toss a perfect inning with two strikeouts in a Blaze win. Johnson just continued his outstanding season where he has posted a 2.57 ERA in 70.0 innings with 16 walks and 50 strikeouts in his first season working entirely out of the bullpen.
The Dayton Dragons took a loss last night in an important game with playoff implications. There were a few highlights though. Robert Ramirez hit a baseball out of the stadium for a long 2-run homer. Over his last seven games he has hit .357 and slugged .714 with five extra-base hits in that span. Check out the video of the home run below.
Jeremy Kivel made his second start in a row after a few appearances in the bullpen that seemed to help him get things moving in the right direction. Last night he gave up a run in 2.2 innings with a walk and three strikeouts. Since August 4th Kivel has thrown 11.2 innings with a 1.54 ERA, four walks and 19 strikeouts.
