The Cincinnati Reds have announced the coaching staff for the Daytona Tortugas for the 2016 season. The Advanced-A affiliate of the Reds will enter their second season with the organization.

Manager Eli Marrero will return for his second season with the Tortugas after taking the team to the Florida State League Championship Series in 2015 with a 77-58 record. Marrero will be in his sixth season working for the organization. He was the manager in 2013-2014 for the Arizona League Reds prior to taking the job with Daytona. He also worked as the hitting coach for Bakersfield and Billings in the two years prior to that. Marrero spent parts of 10 seasons in the big leagues, racking up 2126 plate appearances and was behind the plate for a no-hitter thrown by Bud Norris in 2001.

The Tortugas will have a new pitching coach for the 2016 season as Tom Brown will take over for Tony Fossas. Brown had been working with rehabbing pitchers at the spring training complex in Arizona for the past two seasons. Prior to that he was the pitching coach for the from 2007-2013 in the Reds organization at the Advanced-A and Double-A levels. Brown spent just 13.0 innings in the big leagues, all coming in 1978 with the Mariners. He threw 509.0 innings in the minor leagues over seven seasons.

The hitting coach will be Travis “Gookie” Dawkins. Dawkins spent the 2015 season as the hitting coach for the Arizona League Reds in his first year as a coach. The former 2nd round pick spent parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues from 1999-2003 with the Reds and the Royals. He spent parts of 15 seasons in the minor leagues before retiring after the 2011 season.

Also as a part of the press release is a note that has former Daytona Tortugas pitching coach Tony Fossas being promoted to the Cincinnati Reds pitching Coordinator. That job was formerly held by Mark Riggins who was promoted to Cincinnati Reds pitching coach.
