Leandro Santana came up big for the Dayton Dragons last night. He had entered the game swinging a hot bat, but was 0-4 on the night when he came up in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Dragons third baseman had a chance to win the game with a runner on second base in a tie game. The right-handed hitter took the 2-2 pitch and crushed it over the center fielders head for the walk-off win. You can watch video of his double and the celebration below.
For Leandro Santana, things have been going well over the last two weeks. He’s hitting .326 in his last 11 games, going 14-43 in that span. He’s improved at the plate with each passing month. He really struggled in April, hitting just .127. That jumped up to .239 in May. In June he’s now up to .286, and he’s really cut down on the strikeouts in the month.
TJ Friedl transitioning to Double-A well
When the Cincinnati Reds made their midseason promotions, one of the players that moved up was outfielder TJ Friedl. After playing well in the first half with the Daytona Tortugas, he was sent to Double-A to join the Pensacola Blue Wahoos last week. The jump up to Double-A hasn’t slowed him down.
Last night saw TJ Friedl go 1-4 with a walk and a steal. In his six games played with the Blue Wahoos, their new outfielder has hit .318/.464/.455. The only game in which he didn’t get a hit in was his first. He went 0-2 in that game, walking once and he was hit by a pitch. Plate discipline was a big part of his first half with Daytona, walking 38 times with just 44 strikeouts. That too, has carried forward thus far. He’s only struck out twice in his six games and he’s drawn five walks for Pensacola.
