The Cincinnati Reds have added 2020 1st round pick Austin Hendrick to their 60-man player pool. The outfielder was the 12th overall pick this past draft, but without a minor league season happening, has not played this year since being selected. The organization’s #5 prospect is now one of 16 of the team’s Top 25 prospects that are either in Cincinnati with the Reds, or in Cincinnati at Prasco Park as a part of the alternate roster and 60-man player pool.
It’s been a big week when it comes to the Cincinnati Reds adding prospects to the player pool. The team recently added outfielder Michael Siani, infielder Tyler Callihan, and right-handed starting pitcher Lyon Richardson to the mix at Prasco Park as members of the alternate roster. At 19-years-old, Austin Hendrick is now the youngest player at Prasco Park.
There’s only 11 days remaining in the regular season for the big league club. Teams can continue operating their alternate site while the big league club remains on the field. But there’s a chance that there’s less than two weeks remaining for the Reds, who are just outside of a playoff spot if the season were to end today.
Major League Baseball did approve teams ability to run instructional league as early as later this week. The Reds are attempting to get plans in place to have their instructional league in Goodyear, Arizona next month. Their hope is to have as many players there as possible in order to make up for lost time both on the field and lost time spent with in-person instruction with their coaching staff without a 2020 season. This may be just a way to get the players that have recently been added to Prasco Park’s alternate roster a bit of a head start as it’s tough to see where any of them would be used by the big league club this year.
Here’s where the Reds Midseason Top 25 Prospects are at as of today:

What about the DSL teams. I thought they were going to have a small season this year to or was that changed ?
I have no idea where you saw that, but I never once heard anything like that at all. When I last asked someone in the org about what’s going on at the academy there, it was basically – we’re just trying to do the same thing there as we are here, guys stay in touch with the staff, but everyone is at home and trying to get in some work on their own.
Is it safe to assume there is no fall league this year?
I don’t know that I’d write it off yet, but I do think it’s more likely to not happen than to happen.
Doug, how much are you hearing about what is happening at Prasco? Any word at all about how Greene or Lodolo look over there? Is there any scenario where one of those guys might be called upon to help the Reds over the last three series of the year?
I try to check in on things every so often, but I don’t always ask about every player. The last report I got Lodolo was good, but it was a few weeks ago (not that I’d expect anything to have changed since then – just giving the timeline of the last report I had). That said, I’d be surprised if either got the call. They wouldn’t be postseason eligible at this point, and if those aren’t who you are going to roll with in the playoffs, you probably aren’t calling them up to help get you there.
