Cincinnati Reds prospect Narciso Crook had himself one of the best nights in the history of the Dominican Winter League. Starting in center field for the Tigres del Licey, Crook hit three home runs and drove in eight in an 8-3 win for the Tigres. In doing so, he became just the 9th player in league history to homer three times in a single game.

Home Run #1

Home Run #2

Home Run #3

Narciso Crook‘s third and final home run of the night came against former Reds prospect and one of Crook’s former teammates Wendolyn Bautista. The home run put Crook in the Licey record books as only the second Tigres player to hit three home runs – the other player was former Dodger and Brewer Greg Brock back in November of 1981.

This is the second straight year that Narciso Crook has played in the Dominican Winter League – both with Licey. Tuesday night was only his 28th game, and he entered the night with just 74 total plate appearances. He had never homered in the league until he went out and hit three of them in the game against Cibaenas.

Alejo Lopez picks up 5 hits for Monterrey

In a double header on Tuesday night in the Mexican Winter League, Alejo Lopez went 5-6, was hit by a pitch, doubled, and he scored three runs for Monterrey. It’s been an up-and-down season for Lopez, who got out to a quick start, but then went into a bit of a slump for a few weeks. He’s back to it, though, going 7-10 in the last two games and seeing the ball well.

Former Red Updates

If you are getting the daily updates via Patreon on the stuff going on in winter league baseball, you’re already aware of this, but if you aren’t then how about we take a look at how a few former Cincinnati Reds are doing in winter league ball?

Let’s start with former big league outfielder Denis Phipps. He, like Narciso Crook, homered three times on Tuesday night. Phipps is playing in Nicaragua and is on the same team as new Reds signee Cheslor Cuthbert.

Nick Travieso is pitching in Puerto Rico for Mayaguez. On Tuesday night he threw 1.1 hitless innings of relief with a walk and a strikeout. That was his third appearance – he’s made one start and two relief appearances – and he’s yet to allow a run, he’s now walked two hitters, and he’s struck out seven batters in 8.1 innings pitched and picked up the win in every game he’s appeared.

I don’t know how good his stuff is but maybe Travieso would be a better option to a minor league contract than the two the Reds signed earlier this week.

Has Crook been resigned? MILB has him listed as a Free Agent. He is absolutely one of the nicest kids to ever play at Dayton.

MK I love reading you talking about what these fellas are like off the field. Thanks for always sharing.

Fangraphs has the Reds top 38 prospect list out.

Garcia #1 which is where I have him.

You (and they) have Garcia above Greene and Lodolo? Don’t see that. I don’t even have even above Tyler Stephenson.
