Vladimir Gutierrez had all of his stuff working on Wednesday night. The right-handed starting pitcher picked up the win for the Tigres del Licey by tossing 5.0 hitless innings with just two walks and he struck out eight of the 17 batters that he faced. In what was his final regular season start of the Dominican Winter League, Gutierrez lowered his ERA to 3.71 in his 17.0 innings pitched that covered his five starts. He’s also now walked five batters and struck out 21 while giving up 15 hits.
It’s been a bit of an inconsistent run through his five starts for Licey this winter. Let’s take a look at how each of his starts has gone:
Date | IP | H | ER | BB | K |
30-Nov | 4.0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 7 |
6-Dec | 3.1 | 6 | 3 | 0 | 0 |
12-Dec | 2.2 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 3 |
18-Dec | 2.0 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 3 |
23-Dec | 5.0 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 8 |
Gutierrez, who was making the final start of the season for Licey, bookended his regular season the way he started it – racking up a lot of strikeouts in a shutout effort.
That’s all for a quick update for Christmas Eve. Stay safe, everyone.
Merry Christmas, Doug, and best wishes for a better 2021.
Looks like he is better every 5th day rather than 4th or 6th.
