The Cincinnati Reds alternate site team is on the road right now in Toledo, Ohio taking on the Detroit Tigers alternate site team. The crew at Tigers Minor League Report were in the house and shooting some video for most of the game. Two of the highlights they posted were actually of Reds players doing some good things.

The first was of outfielder TJ Friedl hitting a home run back to Cincinnati, or close to it.

Another highlight from later in the game was a 2-run homer by Narciso Crook deep into right-center field

Other notes from the game

The baseball was certainly flying on the day. Among the Tigers highlights that were posted were two home runs for the Detroit players. Bo Takahashi and Brandon Finnegan each allowed a home run in the game.

Alfredo Rodriguez had at least one single in the game. Edgar García reportedly struggled to throw strikes on the day, but did tough 97 MPH on the stadium radar gun. We have no idea how accurate that radar gun happens to be.

Do you think Crook has a chance at the Show? He’s been at AAA for awhile.

And seeing TJ reminded me of another good outfield prospect named Stuart Fairchild, whom the Reds gave away for no production from either Archie Bradley Jr or Brian Goodwin.

I think Crook may get a few cups of coffee and perhaps some time as a 4/5th OF. He’s had a bunch of injuries that have slowed his progress. He certainly still has some tools.

        Some trades work; some don’t.

I prefer to focus on the ones that did. It makes for a happier, more positive, life.

I think there’s a chance that Crook gets some big league time at some point. He can cover you in the outfield, though he’s stretched a bit as a center fielder on an every day basis. As a backup, though, he can cover you just fine there. He’s got a little pop, and he’s not slow, so there’s some ability to use him in a few ways off of the bench.

Well, here’s hoping we see him at GABP one day
