On Monday we released the updated Cincinnati Reds Top 25 Prospect List. And then the Reds went out and traded away one of the prospects on the list, creating an opening on the list and today I’m here to make the addition. On the original list at #25 when it went through the first few drafts, Ariel Almonte just missed out on the list after a few edits when Elly De La Cruz went wild for the first few weeks of his season and reports started rolling in. Almonte, however, now moves back onto the list with the departure of Noah Davis who was traded to the Colorado Rockies.

25. Ariel Almonte | OF | DSL

Why he’s here: One of the top signings in the most recent international signing class, Ariel Almonte got a $1.85M signing bonus – second most for the Reds in the class, just behind the $1.9M given to fellow outfielder Malvin Valdez. A right fielder with a big time arm, Almonte is a left-handed hitter with plus power potential as he continues to fill out his frame and develop. The 17-year-old is hitting .250/.429/.438 with eight walks in 10 games for the Dominican Summer League Reds to begin his career. Stock Remains the Same.

    That didn’t take long …

I’d say this might be a make-up call, but knowing the ump I’m not sure about that at all.

I was thinking earlier today that Valdez was trying to make you look great for ranking him in the top 25 with his game today and Almonte was trying to make you look foolish because you did not rank him.

Now I guess they are in unison. They both are planning to make you look great. At least I hope so.
