The Chattanooga Lookouts coaching staff for the upcoming season has been announced. The Cincinnati Reds Double-A affiliate will return to the field in 2024 with manager Jose Moreno for a third straight season. He will be joined by hitting coach Daryle Ward, pitching coach Todd Naskedov, and coach Dick Schofield.

Jose Moreno is now in his 5th season with the Reds organization. In his first year he was set to manager the Arizona Complex League Reds, but that first year happened to be 2020 and the season was cancelled. In 2021 he joined the Dayton Dragons as their manager before moving up to Double-A Chattanooga in 2022 where he’s been ever since. He’s had a winning record in two of the three seasons as a manager in the organization, including last year when he helped the Lookouts to the playoffs. Prior to joining Cincinnati’s player development he worked for the Seattle Mariners for 19 years.

Daryle Ward is also returning to Chattanooga. He has been with the hitting coach for the Lookouts in 2023 as well as 2019. He also served as Dayton’s hitting coach in 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022. As a player he spent 11 seasons in the big leagues with the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals, Atlanta Braves, and Chicago Cubs from 1998-2008.

Pitching coach Todd Naskedov will be in Chattanooga for the first time. He has been the pitching coach for both Dayton and Daytona in the past two seasons. Prior to joining the Reds organization he had spent time working for the Houston Astros in pitching coach roles throughout their farm system.

Dick Schofield will be entering his 12th season in the Reds organization. He has worked as both a manager and coach during his time in the organization and has been at nearly every level during his time. Before joining Cincinnati, he worked in player development with the Los Angele Angels. As a player he spent 14 years in the big leagues, playing in 1368 games from 1983-1996 for the Angels, Mets, Blue Jays, and Dodgers.

Daryl Ward as Lookouts hitting coach last season may very well have some success attached to him.

Rece Hinds. Jacob Hurtubise. Blake Dunn. Alex McGarry. Noelvi Marte. Each of these guys flourished at AA. Hinds made what looks to be a significant improvement. McGarry, as well. Hurtubise showed much greater power. Not too shabby! And, as I’ve droned on about, the organization’s top to bottom hitting program seems to have worked well at AA, and Ward seems as if he is well tuned to it.
