Nestor Lorant was named the Florida State League’s Pitcher of the Week for his performance against the Jupiter Hammerheads on Thursday.

While he hasn’t made a start yet this season, Nestor Lorant has thrown a starters workload as he’s worked in a piggyback system in Daytona and has actually thrown more innings that the starter he’s piggybacked. His last outing came on Thursday and he threw 5.0 shutout innings against Jupiter and allowed just one hit. Lorant walked no one and he struck out five batters during the outing for the Tortugas. That outing was strong enough to garner enough votes to earn him the Pitcher of the Week award.

It’s just another outstanding week in the 2024 season that has seen Lorant be the best pitcher in the farm system. He has thrown 55.0 innings pitched this year and has a 1.31 ERA. The Venezuelan native has given up 33 hits and walked just 11 – and two of those walks have been intentional. Lorant has also struck out 64 of the 203 batters he’s faced this season while holding the opposition to a .175 batting average, a .228 on-base percentage, and a .270 slugging percentage.

During the month of June he’s been on a different level. He pitched in five games and allowed one earned run in 21.1 innings (0.42 ERA) while giving up just six hits, walking just three batters, and he struck out 24. It’ll be a few more days before the players of the month are announced, but don’t be surprised at all if Lorant’s got some more hardware to put up on his wall.
