So, this weekend was pretty exciting given that the Reds pitchers and catchers reported for their first day of spring training. Here is a link to the Reds roster and here is a list of the non-roster invites.
The Cincinnati Enquirer has up a photo gallery from the weekend if you want to check it out. It is really nice to see the guys out there and on a baseball field. Having baseball back is awesome, especially since there is about 5 inches of snow outside as I type this and it is still falling.
Mark Sheldon has up an article on the opening of spring training at Reds.com. He talks with some of the pitchers about the excitement to be back to baseball activities.
“The last two weeks, I’ve been taking BP and really cutting it loose,” he said. “I feels really good.”
Sounds good, because the Reds really need Cozart to be an asset due to their complete lack of other options that could even be close to average.
Fay also had a series of questions that the Reds need to have answered in order for a good season. Question four on the list was “Are the rookies ready“? The question revolves around Devin Mesoraco and Zack Cozart and how they can contribute to the 2012 Reds season. I think that the two of them are more of the “prepared” prospects that the Reds have brought up in recent years. They both have good plate approaches and enough pop in their bats to keep pitchers honest as well.
John Fay has a post on his blog that talks about Donald Lutz. It is a shorter piece, mostly just as an introduction to the broader Reds fan base who doesn’t know much about him, unlike you guys who follow the system much more in depth than the common fan who only knows the guys that Marty or the TV guys mention.
That is all for now. I will be driving all day long, hopefully safely as there is quite a bit of snow between where I am (and here actually) and back in Cincinnati. So, play nice in the comments, though I am sure you will since we never have issues here because you guys are the best.
