The winter league playoffs are in full swing here in the first week of January. Felix Perez is playing in the Venezuelan Winter League for Caribes de Anzsoategui, the top team during the regular season. They are 2-1 so far in the round robin playoff after an 11-9 win on Tuesday night. Perez played a good role in the win.

In the first inning he hit a sac fly to put the team up 2-0. He would draw a walk to lead off the fifth inning but he was stranded at third. The seventh inning started out with a bang as Perez homered to extend the lead to 7-4. He would end the inning with a strikeout as the team batted around and extended their lead to 11-4. That would be his final at bat of the game.

In the opposite dugout was Alejandro Chacin. The 21-year-old right hander was traded during the season and began seeing playing time with his new team late in the regular season. He threw 1.2 hitless innings, walking two batters.

In Puerto Rico Neftali Soto also played a big role in a victory for Cangrejeros de Santurce. They would win 4-2. Soto gave them a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the first inning. In the fifth inning he singled to load the bases and a run would later score that gave them the lead. Santurce is now 4-0 in their round robin playoff.

Juan Silva was on the other side of the field. He would double in the third inning, but was stranded. He walked in the fifth inning and was once again stranded. The walk was his fourth of the playoffs.

On Monday night down in Mexico the Charros de Jalisco brought home a win. They got all they needed in the second inning when Marquez Smith hit a 2-run homer that gave the team a 2-0 lead. They would go on to win 4-1 and sweep the first round of the playoffs. Smith would go 1-4 with a walk in the game.
